WCB

Monday night is normally WCB rehearsal night and tonight was no different.

So, approximately 45 mins after getting home from my 16km run, and having been fed and watered with a lovely chicken stir fry and a frozen curly wurly i headed off to Terrey Hills for a couple of hours of brass band music making.

The band is currently in a transitional period between contests and so the pressure is well and truely off. Which i like as it means we play more of a variety of pieces rather than concentrating on test pieces. Nice for a break and a change.

It was a good rehearsal tonight, and a relatively big turn out. Three tubas as well which is unheard of outside contesting! Nice to have some support on the back line....

We have a big concert in November in the Town Hall and so we spent some time on the concert pieces for that, Gael Force and Kingdom Triumphant by Eric Ball which is a really lovely piece and will sound great in the Town Hall.

After the tea and biscuit break John decided to mix it up with the test piece St Magnus by Kenneth Downie. I have no idea why as it was quarter past nine, we had had a nice rehearsal and then we have to play this! I mean why spoil a nice night?! Apparently it is one of the hardest test pieces invented for man and i'm not surprised either. Suffice to say it wasnt a very pleasant experience, although all done in high spirits which was good. We didnt actually make it past the first movement before John called a half to proceedings and put us out of our misery by sending us all home.

Thank goodness i wasnt on my own at the back!

Still, an enjoyable night's playing.
