Following a quick change, I walked straight onto the football court for the next game in Berocca’s assault on division 1. So far we had had a mixed start to the season, winning 2 close games whilst also being demolished in our 2 other games.
Our opponents started the game on the same points as us, but higher up the table on goal difference so it was important for us to register a victory to get the season back on track.
We only had a team of 5 for the game (Gary, Charlie, Joe, Keith and myself) which meant that breaks would be taken in goal as opposed to off the court.
I started the game in goal as I was still puffing after my swim. As per usual, we started slowly and were under siege for the opening few minutes. Slowly we got back into it and pulled a couple of goals clear before conceding a dreadful goal ourselves……and that was basically the pattern for the rest of the game – we would score and then concede a bad goal ourselves. Gary made a particular howler whilst in goal, although Keith was also guilty of letting a few past him too...
In the end we ran out comfortable 9-4 winners, although all 4 of their goals could and should have been avoided!
I had a pretty quiet game, preferring to hang back and take things easy as my legs were still sore after the previous few days exertions…but a win is a win and we should jump a couple of places in the table as a result...
