Up and out early on another stunning winter’s day for the second long marathon training run. Met Roly and Tim at 7am at the QLSC and headed off for another bite of the North Head 30km circuit. The legs felt sore from the start as I had spent the whole of the previous afternoon on my hands and knees ripping up the kitchen floor with a jackhammer but once I got going they were ok.
We kept the pace honest for the first few km’s averaging just over 5 min/km, until we got to Manly Dam and became very lost. Turns out we “went bush” far too early and ended up on the bike tracks. After a bit of bush bashing, we finally broke out onto Manning Street and headed down to Spit Bridge, Clontarf and then on up the hills to Manly Wharf. From here we again headed up to North Head, pushing the pace on the hills knowing that from North Head it was basically downhill all the way, apart from a small, nasty climb into Shelly Beach.
Finished at the QLSC again for about 30.3km all up in just over 2.53. About the same pace as last week, around the 5.45/km mark. The legs were sorer than last week though and so I decided to go for a dip in the sea to sooth the muscles. Perfect recovery!
