We had an early kick off last night and so off i trundled off up to Cook & Phillip Park earlier than usual for a swim before the game.
The pool was packed for some reason, maybe due to the fact i was so early...to the extent that i actually had difficulty getting in to swim as there were so many people in the medium lane! Anyway, when i eventually managed to make it into the water i cranked out another slow 700m, although not as slow as previous weeks so things may be picking up! All up about 19 minutes with no breaks which i was fairly happy with...although i still have a long way to go! The main difference this session was that i tried to turn my arms over quicker and develop a faster cadence which then seemed to propel me through the water quickly...although my arms were tired at the end. I still think my upper body isnt strong enough to drag my legs through the water...
Onto footy and another win for the Seniors. 3-2. Team tonight was me, Rich, Gary, Charlie, Tom and Dave. Although our opposition were 6th, they were actually pretty handy which goes to show that league table positions count for nothing in this league....it is all about who decides to play on the night.
Anyway, we went 2-0 up in the first half, courtesy of close range finish from yours truely and then another from Tom. Unfortunately, they got back into it just before half time (we always seem to concede just before the break) before equalising early in the second half. Encouragingly we dug in at this point and managed to sneak a winner towards the end of the match from a rebound after a hefty heave again from yours truely! Proves that long range shooting does work sometimes. We then hung on for the last 5 minutes for the win.
Not a great performance and we were guilty of some chronic finishing at times and also some wayward passing but we will take it for now. Apparently Ben may be out for the season due to stomach problems which is a shame. 7 wins and one draw from 8 games isnt a bad start to the season though! 1 vs 2 next week though...
